5 of the Most Dirty Places in Your Home

Bacteria and germs are unseen but multiplying rapidly in certain places in your home. Waging a war on germs necessitates vigilance and the correct cleaning products and methods. Even the most dedicated housekeepers will have germs lurking in nooks and unfortunately, on many visible items in your home as well. Disinfecting and sanitising will go a long way towards keeping bacteria at bay but on occasion, it is a good idea to employ professional home cleaners who will instigate an individual cleaning plan for all areas of your home.

The TV remote

Do you ever have trouble finding the remote? Remotes have a way of getting stuffed down the side of the lounge, left on the table and dropped on the floor. Remotes also get touched with dirty hands, coughed on and used by every member of the household. The surface of a remote is actually one of the germiest items in the house. Many remotes harbour viruses which can be easily spread between family members. Regularly wipe over remotes with an anti-bacterial wipe.

The kitchen sink

Particles of food from rinsing dishes in the sink can breed bacteria such as salmonella and E.coli. After doing the dishes, rinsing the sink with water is not enough. The sink may look clean but washing your sink area daily with disinfectant or bleach will help stop the growth of germs. Don’t forget to give the plug and drain the same treatment.

The bathroom

Pipes in bathtubs and showers are a haven for dangerous bacteria. Water is trapped in the pipes and when you turn on the tap, bacteria filled water shoots out. Pour a little bathroom cleaner or bleach down the drain after bathing to help eliminate germs and bacteria.

Your toothbrush

Good dental hygiene begins with brushing your teeth at least twice a day. So you brush, rinse off your toothbrush and place it in the holder wet. Bacteria love moisture and this is the perfect place for bacteria to propagate. Try to leave your toothbrush in a place where it can air dry. Change your toothbrush if you have been sick and make sure your toothbrush is well away from the airborne bacteria that last for two hours after flushing a toilet.

The computer keyboard

Nearly every home has a computer keyboard which is used by both children and adults. If not kept clean, the home keyboard is a health hazard. Keyboards can hold traces of foodstuffs and cold viruses. Germs on keyboards are of a much higher level than those found on a toilet seat. Keep hand sanitiser near the keyboard and regularly wipe over both keyboard and mouse.

It is easy to feel repulsed at the thought of germs lurking and breeding copiously within your home. However, many germs are harmless and are necessary for your health. There are certain germs though that need extermination and these can be kept under control by the use of hand sanitisers, cleaners and using soap and water to regularly wash your hands throughout the day. You could also contact AMC Commercial Cleaning to give your home a thorough professional clean to keep the breeding rate of bacteria under control.
